Why do we have to pay attention to this compliance stuff?		Since the tragedy of 9/11, our government has been constantly reevaluating its security processes. However, even before that they were trying to get exporters and importers to realize that what we are dealing with here is LAWS. And the simple reality is that when laws are broken, many are enforced. ("Links") Consultants are frequently perceived as trying to scare traders into compliance. There are several aspects to this notion. The consequences of being non-compliant are real That's what some traders pay attention to, Its all about risk management. When consultant's don't sufficiently clarify the risk to the client, and something happens, they are often accused of not doing their job well.

Isn't all this product classification and documentation stuff the responsibility of the freight forwarder?		Clearly not! The various regulations ("Links") indicate that the party who knows the most about the commercial transaction has the responsibility for providing the data. Acting as your agent, under a power of attorney, the freight forwarder does have regulatory obligations of its own.
